I met someone while studying abroad and now I'm moving back to America. Is it worth it to pursue a long distance relationship?

In my honest opinion, no. Unless there is a foreseeable end to the long distance, it's not worth it. I've tried doing long distance after study abroad, and it just doesn't work (at least not for me). I spent two much time glued to my phone or facetiming this person across the world from me and ended up missing out on things happening right in front of me. Long distance is hard, and I don't think it's worth it for someone who you met maybe just a couple months ago while studying abroad.
Before leaving, discuss a long distance relationship with the other person. Be realistic about how it would work and whether it's worth it. Long distance relationships can be a lot of work and if neither of you are willing to put in the effort or see that you won't "go the distance" it may be worth it to just end your study abroad experience as friends without any romantic expectations. Even if you think you may want to pursue a long distance relationship, you also have to consider how likely it is that you'll see each other again and how often. If they live in another country, it can be very difficult (especially depending on your financials) to meet up. Overall, you really need to think about how strong your feelings are for the other person and whether the two of you think a relationship is worth a try. Don't be afraid to go for it but make sure you really want to move forward before you give it a try.
There have been so many cautionary tales about long distance relationships that warn people not to get into them, but honestly you might as well try it; the worst that can happen is that the relationship ends. However, be honest with your partner about your concerns and talk them out together. However, if the relationship gets to be too much and you find yourself focusing more on your partner over seas rather than focusing on what you have going on back home, then it might be time to reconsider the relationship.
You lose nothing by trying a long distance relationship. If you already feel that it is not a good idea, then you are dooming the relationship to failure before it even begins. No relationship can flourish under those conditions. And if you do not trust your partner enough then it is also not a great idea. But long distance relationships can often work as long as both sides are willing to put in the hard work and effort because they care enough for each other.
