Cons: Midterms and finals are difficult even for practiced students.
Always chooses hardest questions, almost always questions that never showed up in the textbook or assigned as homework.
Smartass.
My first quarter (19A) with Eastman was bearable, mostly because I had already taken an equivalent to Calc I in high school. Calc II was a different story, I'm great with math and always do the homework plus his extra assigned problems on the course website. I attended office hours regularly, and admit to having skimped on some discussion sections (the morning isn't my strong suit) but I felt like I had a good grasp on the materials presented every week. His tests were from an alien planet, even with my extra practice I felt ill-prepared for his curveballs, and I wasn't the only one who felt this way. He's a smartass that likes to focus on weakness and instead of providing practice problems like the hard ones he gives on tests, he expects every student to have every square inch of the textbook read and memorized 100%. Receiving a C is a frustrating grade for having made the class my #1 priority.
Cons: Tricky tests, require you to thoroughly understand the materials and how they relate to each other. Not a "wrote memory" type of math class.
Awesome professor! Some people don't care for him because they try to BS and get snuffed by him, and then feel like their egos are bruised. If you actually study like college students "should" be you will be fine in this class, don't take anything personally. The class is a very good gauge for how much you actually understand the material, not just brushed over in an attempt to finish the homeworks or pass the finals.
Just put the time in and you will learn and do well in the class.
