7 Things That Will Make You Happy

By Ashley Logan on April 30, 2018

Some days are better than others. If you’re not feeling today, take a look at this list of some things that could turn your frown upside down. These eight different things could take your sappy day and make it happy. Yay!

1. Animals

Have you ever gone to your local pet store just because? I mean, it’s a free viewing of puppies and kittens. They even have frogs, snakes, birds and small mammals. Pet Stores are honestly one of the best places to visit even if you don’t have a pet. Animal shelters and the zoo follow behind in the cuteness factor when it comes to animals. There’s nothing like a kitten in a bowl.

2. Retail Therapy

This one may hurt your pockets. I’m not encouraging you to splurge on something that seems awesome, but you should go for it if it won’t break the bank. I’m not sure what it is about buying things. Maybe it is the newness aspect of it all or even the idea of simply receiving a package. Thanks to Amazon Prime, online shopping is even more addictive. Check out these cool websites to shop your heart away and fill that void:

3. Going Outside

Going outside and getting some fresh air is a quick stress reliever. No, don’t take your headphones with you. Listen to the sounds of nature or the city and just take it all in. Beauty is right outside your front door, you may sometimes take nature for granted but it will always be there when you need a breather. If you don’t know what could be cool about going outside, here are a few reasons to do so:

  • Watching the Sunset or Sunrise
  • Going for a walk
  • Looking at the stars
  • Looking at your surroundings

4. Self-Care

After a stressful day, there’s nothing like taking care of yourself. Self-care is basically unwinding and treating yourself the way that you deserve. From winding down with a mug of tea to changing into your comfy clothes after a long to, self-care is a major key to relaxation.

Some examples of self-care include creating a daily skincare routine, doing a body scrub or using a bath bomb. Light up an incense or your favorite candle and read a book or wind down watching your favorite YouTubers. A popular method of self-care is practicing yoga and meditation. Both yoga and meditation go hand in hand, allowing you to stretch your body and mind at the same time. Self-care should be added into your daily rituals so that the stresses from work and school can be eased by something you do all the time.

5. Food

There’s nothing better than eating your favorite foods or snacks. I myself have a bad snacking problem but lately, I’ve been trying to substitute candy for fruit. Some of my favorite snacks are grapes with peanut butter and bananas with peanut butter. I’ve found comfort in watching food being made or food-related shows as well. Food Network has the best food challenge and cooking shows to binge watch when you’re feeling lazy. There are a few YouTube channels that have great food creating videos that are therapeutic with the lack of talking and the use of soothing music. Here is my favorite baking channel on YouTube.

6. Music

Music is always a great way to release your inner feelings. The type of music that would relax you is solely based on your own music taste. Who is your favorite artist? My favorite artist is Frank Ocean, and I’m a big fan of R&B music. R&B music provides a moody, soulful vibe that allows my mind and body to relax. Some may enjoy instrumental music to relax and wind down and others may prefer trap music. Concerts are a safe haven for music lovers and usually provide a pleasurable experience. There are a few songs that are always an option for me to listen to and brighten my mood.

Here is a list of some of my favorite songs to listen to:

7. Self-Expression

Self-expression can include journaling, singing, playing a video game, or even cooking. Self-expression is a way for you to get out of your head and create something. Whatever your passions in life are, this is a time to pursue them. Channeling your energy into creating something tangible makes for a great hobby. Depending on your particular interests.

The overall purpose of this article was to make you think of different things that spark happiness within your body. Life is tough and sometimes happiness is lost but taking care of yourself and channeling your energy into positive outlets. I hope you were able to find some inspiration and ideas to lift your spirits on a rainy day.
