7 Affordable Makeup Must-Haves

By Ankita Upadhyay on October 25, 2015

For those of you that watch beauty gurus on YouTube, surf Sephora’s website, and automatically switch the tab to Pinterest or Target’s website to find dupes, you’re in the right place. After hours of doing exactly what I listed above, I hope I’m able to provide you with good advice on buying affordable, yet high quality makeup!

*All opinions/products recommendations are my own.

1) e.l.f. Primer – For those of you that complain about your makeup wearing off and having to reapply foundation, concealer, etc., invest in an e.l.f. primer! This primer truly helps makeup last longer and moisturizes your face with just one squirt out of the bottle. The cool thing about e.l.f. primer is that there is a variety in terms of color and type. You can choose from the (blue!) e.l.f. hydrating face primer if you have typically dry skin, (green!) e.l.f. blemish control primer if you have redness, (pink!) e.l.f. poreless primer to minimize your pores, and more. The best part – it’s only $6!

2) Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation – For a drugstore foundation, the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation provides excellent coverage and duration. Since it’s matte, this foundation prevents your skin from getting and looking too oily. You don’t need to apply too much, which is beneficial, as one bottle can last you months. This foundation doesn’t look cakey and gives you a natural look – as if you weren’t wearing any makeup at all in the first place.

 3) Precisso Beauty Blending Sponge – Forget brushes. Beauty blenders are a lot more effortless to use when blending makeup and convenient to maintain when it comes to cleaning. It takes little to almost no time to fully blend and conceal blemishes such as redness and acne scars. The egg shaped structure makes it so easy to transition from blending foundation/concealer on the lower part of your face to under your eyes – simply use the bottom of your beauty blender for your cheeks and chin and the pointy tip for under your eyes (or any other crevices you think need some concealing). Cleaning isn’t a hassle either, as you can just run it under lukewarm water using Johnson’s Baby Wash for a gentle cleanse.

4) NYX Liquid Eyeliner – So worth the price. This eyeliner is a god send for drawing cat eyes or a winged look. The tip has the perfect thickness and and glides easily onto your upper eyelids, resulting in a clean, sharp eye makeup look. Not to mention, this eyeliner actually lasts the whole day (provided you put some sort of eye shadow primer). Overall, this product is definitely worth repurchasing due to its price and quality!

5) Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara – “Are you wearing falsies?” is probably what people will ask you should you apply this amazing mascara! Its fan shaped applicator prevents clumping and calls for smooth application that discernibly lengthens your lashes. It is a little on the pricey side when it compared to other drugstore mascaras – but definitely worth spending on.

 6) Wet n Wild Blush – The 833E Mellow Wine specifically, is perfectly pigmented, which means you don’t have to use too much to achieve the look you want. The color provides for a nice, natural look that will fool others into thinking your skin just naturally glows a pretty pink on any occasion. This blush is also slightly glittery, which makes you sparkle (not too be taken too literally), yet appear elegant at the same time! (This is just one blush shade out of many that Wet n Wild has to offer – this recommendation applies to other blush shades as well.)

7) Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick – This lipstick doesn’t feel too heavy and actually has a nice moisturizing feel to it. In addition, it glides on smoothly, comes in a variety of shades ranging from nude to bold, and lasts throughout the day. Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss is definitely the brand of lipstick many beauty gurus and even professional makeup artists reach for. Once again, the price is so worth the try, and maybe even the buy. Plus, some of them even smell good!
