Five Must Watch Series on Netflix
With winter break approaching, we will all have some free time to finally chill out and relax. One of the best ways to do that is to veg out on the couch or in bed and binge watch a T.V. series. We have all been there before, but usually with the stress of the homework we were supposed to be doing or the test we were supposed to be studying for looming over our head. Now that that won’t be the case, I give you five must-watch series on Netflix:
1. Arrested Development
If you have not watched this series yet, you are missing out. Every episode is noteworthy and the characters are hilarious. The show is the story of Michael Bluth, a man who is put in charge of his father’s company after he is sent to prison for fraud. Michael has to deal with his crazy father, his narcissistic mother and sister, his kooky brother in law, his son who is in love with his own cousin and his two brothers who both may have been dropped on their heads as children. Some episodes may need to be watched more than once in order to catch all the small asides and jokes within the dialogue. Although season 4 (the season that was released by Netflix last May) was not all it cracked up to be, every other season of the show has been hilarious and somewhat cringe-worthy (in a good way of course). Give this show a chance!
If you have watched this series, check out this link that highlights underlying jokes throughout the course of the show that you probably didn’t realize even existed.
2. Parks and Recreation
This show will immediately put you in a good mood. It profiles the life of Lesley Knope, a mid-level bureaucrat who works in the parks department of the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana. Lesley is incredibly perky and almost always in a good mood and she happens to be the only person who cares about fixing the parks in Pawnee. Her coworkers and love interests in the show add to the laughter with their witty comments and unique ideas for the parks department. I have to say, this is one of my favorite shows, and it is so easy to binge watch because of how funny and light-hearted it is. This is a must see series.
3. Orange is the New Black
I am sure most of you have heard of this show since it received so much hype after its release on Netflix in July. The show is about a woman who is sent to prison for 15 months due to the drug dealing she dabbled with in her past. It gives you some insight into prison life, although I am 99% sure it is dramatized for this show, but nevertheless it is still entertaining and insightful. The characters are hilarious and the topics discussed are real world problems that women deal with.
4. Revenge
My current Netflix obsession. The show is about a girl who grew up in the Hamptons before her father was put in prison for a crime he did not commit. Emily goes back to the Hamptons to seek revenge on the family and associated individuals responsible for her father’s imprisonment. Somehow, this show is full of surprises even in season 3 and has kept me hooked after all this time. At some point, you would think viewers would be fed up and just want to see Emily get her revenge already, but I suppose that is why we keep watching, we need the closure she needs. The show is suspenseful and full of secrets that will shock you every time. I am pretty sure the show is on its last season and that it will finally come to an end within the next couple of weeks. Definitely worth giving this show a shot!
5. Mad Men
I am still in the process of watching this show and have been for about a year now. It is one of those shows that you can go back to, and I only watch it when there is not something better on. Mad Men is set in the 1960’s and follows the life of Don Draper, an ad man working for a world-class ad agency. Don is good at his job and even better at cheating on his wife. It is interesting to watch a show set in the past and to see the lifestyle lived by wealthy socialites in the 60’s. Mad Men is a good show, but would not be the first show I would recommend to anyone, which is why it is number five on this list.
There is one more series that I HIGHLY recommend, but it is not available to watch on Netflix, so I can’t officially put it on the list. The show is called Suits and it is about a lawyer who never went to law school. The series profiles the trials and tribulations of him trying to hide his secret and how it constantly interferes with his life. It is full of witty humor and gives viewers an inside look at how a big name, New York law firm runs and the stresses that lawyers face on a daily basis. The show can be watched on Amazon Prime and is one of my favorite shows (it’s up there with Parks and Recreation), so I encourage you to give it a try!
