If your tenants are predominantly students, getting them something for the holiday season can really help them out and let them know you care about them.

Gifts for your student tenants don’t have to be huge or expensive; students are typically thrilled to receive anything that assists them with managing or simplifying their busy lives.

Read on for gift ideas that are sure to be winners this holiday season as you gear up to show your tenants some appreciation.

1. Portable phone charger

Students are always plugged into their phones — and not just for scrolling through social media or texting sassy cat memes to their friends.

In college, students use their phones heavily in order to access emails and important information related to their coursework. When their phones die, students are cut off from doing what they need to do if they do not have a laptop around.

Property managers and landlords looking to give their student tenants something especially useful this holiday season should look into giving them portable phone chargers; one full charge on the portable charger usually charges a smartphone about 2.5 times all the way.

Your tenants will really use this gift — who doesn’t need extra charge when you’re out and about?

2. Amazon.com gift card

Students get free Amazon Prime service for six months if they sign up with their university email, and as students, we like shopping online so we don’t even have to leave our rooms.

If you’re stuck on what to give your tenants this winter, an Amazon gift card is a good all-purpose gift that anyone can use however they choose to. It’s a fast gift if you don’t have a lot of time to browse, and the gift card will help any tenant pay for what they need.

3. A sturdy laundry bag

Student tenants usually don’t want to do laundry more often than is absolutely necessary. This means they probably have a mountain of clothes growing larger and larger in their rooms every day, putting quite a bit of stress on their laundry bags when it comes time to tackle their mass of dirty outfits.

A helpful gift that landlords can give to tenants is a strong, well-built laundry bag that won’t break at the seams from packed laundry loads. Many laundry bags are designed with pockets that you can use to store dryer freshening sheets or laundry soap pods, which will make laundry time a breeze.

4. Wellness kit

If you feel like putting in a little extra effort into gifts for your tenants, consider making a cute little “wellness kit” for the winter months (students are most prone to getting sick when it’s cold and campuses are crowded with folks who are coughing and sniffling right and left).

Arrange an assortment of tea bags in a small basket along with some Vitamin C and anything else that might be healthy or soothing to a student who may come down with a cold sometime soon. Anything that helps students stay well and feel good will be appreciated.

5. Storage items

You can bet that students are always looking for ways to store more of their stuff in smaller spaces. Any tenant will be thrilled to innovate their space with cool organizers and space-saving gadgets like over-the-door shoe racks or pop-up drawers that can be collapsed when not in use.

If you know what they already have, see if you can find something new for your tenants that may end up solving a problem of theirs, storage-wise.

6. Cookware/kitchen items

Many student tenants want to cook their own food, but don’t really want to spend $30 on one frying pan.

Cookware is a great gift that property managers can give to their student tenants, be it an inexpensive set of glasses, plates, or even some silverware. Kitchen gadgets are always helpful for student tenants who live off of coffee and tea and may need a super-fast hot water heater or coffee maker.

Other useful items include cookie sheets/pizza pans, spatulas, basic water cups, and cutting boards. These may seem like basic items (and they are), but students on a budget will really appreciate any dishes or appliances they can get to stock their kitchen.

Housing managers and landlords who might be unable to provide many gifts for their tenants should know that students will appreciate even a handwritten card for the holidays. If you especially value your tenants, let them know.

Student tenants will be grateful to have such a kind landlord who lets them know that they are welcomed in the property. Take 10 minutes one of these days to jot down a quick message in a holiday card to remind your tenants that they’re great, and if you have the means to do so, maybe throw in one of these useful gifts to go with it.

Happy holidays!
